The Great Cornish Food Store opened its doors yesterday (June 16) in a national retail-first, co-located with Waitrose in Truro.

Completely independent, the new store on the eastern edge of Truro is owned by Ruth and Dave Huxley and managed by Angie Coombs.

Ruth Huxley is the MD of Cornwall Food and Drink, a network organisation that helps to develop and promote Cornish food and drink businesses, as part of a wider remit to ensure a sustainable, economic future for the industry.

The store, covering around 5,000sq ft, is part of a ground-breaking partnership with the multinational supermarket, The Duchy of Cornwall and Cornwall Council.

Huxley said: “Our vision was to create a place that could offer not just customer choice, but a link to our thriving food and drink industry here in Cornwall.

“Our next step will be to use this very powerful platform to help develop local businesses that want to scale up their production and enable supply with increased demand.”

The store features a meat and fish counter, a deli counter, take-away and a 40 seater café on site, overseen by Paul Ripley, a Michelin awarded and former head chef at Rick Stein’s The Seafood Restaurant.
