Some of the region’s most innovative and advanced businesses have been recognised at the Medilink South West Healthcare Business Awards.

This includes two clients from the Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre (HWIC) – Core Health Consultancy and Ultramed Ltd who celebrated their achievements after winning at the awards this month.

Ultramed Ltd won the Innovation Award for its work developing a suite of products specialising in patient preparation and assessment before surgery, providing a multitude of benefits to both patients and clinicians.

Core Health Consultancy (CHC) won the Partnership with the NHS Award. Helen Tite, business owner of CHC, said: “This is pioneering work where a need was demonstrated. The NHS wants to keep clients out of the care system to reduce costs – we teach skills that enable people to feel more confident in their everyday tasks and help them to manage their conditions in a safe manner.

“This in turn reduces waiting times for treatments and financial strains, as our clients are stronger and less dependent on the health service.”

Ultramed director, Dr Paul Upton, added: “The team are delighted to have been recognised for the innovative web hosted products that have been developed. MyPreOp aims to improve the experience for patients whilst allowing hospitals to re-design the way that preoperative processes function to make them more efficient and cost effective.”

The winners will be entered into the national Medilink UK Awards taking place on April 20 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, which is part of the Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2016.
