A firm of independent financial advisers has set up a specialist team to help businesses deal with the forthcoming pension changes.

Worldwide Financial Planning, which has offices in Truro and Wadebridge, launched the initiative to educate companies about the Government’s new Workplace Pension and Auto-enrolment scheme.

The changes in pension legislation, which come into effect from 2012, will have an impact on every business, employer and employee in the UK.

The team, made up of advisers Nick McBreen, Matt Higham, Chris Rowe and Andrew Stallard, is hosting a series of workshops and one-to-one sessions to ensure that businesses are compliant.

McBreen, who has already presented to Cornwall Chamber members, said: “The Workplace Pension reforms mean that it is now the responsibility of employers to make sure employees are automatically enrolled into a pension scheme and informed of this.

“It also means that employers will be required to pay pension contributions for any employees who join and stay in the pension scheme.

“Existing workplace pension schemes will have to make changes so that they comply with the new legislation.

“And, if that’s not a concern, then the Pensions Regulator will police and enforce these new laws.”
