Truro-based CSA Architects has chalked up another notable first by obtaining Cornwall’s first BREEAM industrial assessor licence.

CSA associate Susan Wieck has completed her training to this standard to become one of only 140 BREEAM industrial assessors in the UK.

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method is the world’s most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure to describe a building’s environmental performance.

Susan has also just passed a new exam to qualify as a BREEAM accredited professional – one of the first 50 in the UK to do so.

CSA managing director Justin Dodge commented: “Having Susan in-house with these credentials enables us to achieve BREEAM rating requirements in a cost-effective manner, designing in key features from conception. This is particularly important for grant-funded projects notably convergence, where BREEAM ‘Excellent’ is a pre-requisite.”

“Susan is also qualified for BREEAM office and retail assessment. Her new skills complement her existing capability as a Code For Sustainable Homes assessor and underline our commitment to cutting-edge design for environmental sustainability.”

Wieck’s services are part of CSA’s environmental consultancy wing, which also assists other practices and non-CSA clients.
