More and more people are searching online for quick-fix divorces, according to figures researched by law firm Coodes Solicitors.

According to reports on global search engine Google, almost 10,000 people in the UK searched for “online divorce” and 2,900 looked for “DIY divorce” in the last month.

Another 18,000 people searched for “divorce advice” with more than 4,000 seeking “quick divorce” options.

With tens of thousands of people turning to the internet every month to save money on a divorce or even avoid paying solicitors fees, Coodes has introduced fixed price divorce packages with varying price options.

Elise Alma, head of family law at Coodes, explained: “It’s absolutely crucial that people get the best advice they can, and in these tough financial times they are looking for affordable legal support.

“Many people would prefer to use a local solicitor to file for divorce as well as obtaining legal advice on the additional legal issues concerning financial settlements and arrangements for children but are concerned that costs will be a barrier to using a legal expert.

“Of course, in an ideal world we would like all our clients to have the benefit of expert legal advice through the process, however we understand there is an increasing demand for people to complete the paperwork  themselves to reduce costs.

“The danger is that for some, in doing this without legal advice at all and no understanding of the financial consequences of ending their marriage, their position can be seriously prejudiced.

“This is why we have introduced a tiered system of support which will help people engage a solicitor to support them through a sensitive and sometimes difficult time.”
