Bolitho School in Penzance is holding the first of a series of Open Days next week (Nov 30-Dec 4).

The independent school is set for a new lease of life after previous owner, Gems Education, announced its closure last December.

However, new owner – Porthia Education Limited (PEL) – has stepped in and a Charitable Trust is being set up to operate the school, independent of Porthia.

A new board of governors will include representatives from Truro School, including its headmaster.

Bolitho School representatives will include Stephen Litherland, who has a long association with the school, and is the former lead director of the Friends of Bolitho School Limited.

This strengthened board of governors will offer advice, support and guidance as the school prepares to re-launch in September.

Bolitho School’s new headteacher, Nicola Hemsley, said: “This is an extremely exciting time, not only for Bolitho School, but for independent education in the south west, and I am very much looking forward to working with all parties, including staff, parents, students and the local community, on this journey of resurgence.”

The school will be open to visitor throughout next week (Nov 30-Dec 4) and then again from January 13-15.
