A husband and wife team who fell for Cornwall’s charms while on holiday have bought the Mevagissey Bay Hotel for £890k.

John Ross and his Dutch wife Elleke purchased the property, which is situated on Polkirt Hill between Mevagissey village and Portmellon Cove, with the help of £585k loan from NatWest.

The hotel, which has 11 bedrooms and views over Mevagissey Bay across to Chapel Point, comprises a guest lounge, bar, dining room and 11 ensuite guest bedrooms as well as a sun terrace and gardens.

Ross said: “A couple of years ago the idea started to grow to own a small bed and breakfast. We have both travelled a lot, lived in many places all over the world, experienced hospitality in many shapes and forms, and so the desire for a B&B or small hotel came forth from our experiences.

“We both love to meet people, hear and share stories and experiences, eat food from all over the globe, and bring people together.

“Cornwall is always beautiful, with warm sunny days and the smell of flowers but the dark skies, heavy clouds, wind and crashing waves are equally amazing,” he added.
