Two Hoggs – accompanied by a swathe of the other type of hogs – have bought Pennywort Mill near Callington for £675k.

Chris and Hilary Hogg have launched their new ‘Happy Hoggsters’ holiday lettings business at the 11-acre property which also comprises a small holding of rare breed animals.

The couple worked hard to rejuvenate the site’s three holiday cottages in time for the summer season as well as the main farmhouse which is now their home.

The menagerie of animals, meanwhile, comprises Tamworth, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, Sardinian donkeys, Pygmy goats, Boer goats, Bourbon Red turkeys and Greyface Dartmoor sheep, as well as chickens for eggs and table.

Recently-retired Royal Navy officer, Chris Hogg, said: “Our aim is to create a peaceful family-based cottage let business set in the Cornish countryside amidst an array of rare breed animals.

“After finding, and falling in love with Pennywort, I had to learn quickly about business plans and finance in order to realise the dream. The help of Chris Hicks from NatWest was fundamental and he was instrumental in shaping the plan and helping us achieve the purchase.”

Hicks added: “We’re glad to have been of help. It took just five weeks from the initial introduction to the loan being drawn and we wish them all the best with their new venture.”
