Cornwall is in the running to hold onto its title as the Best UK Holiday Destination for a sixth year having been shortlisted in the British Travel Awards 2014.

A public vote against rival category contenders; Devon, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Pembrokeshire, is now all that stands between Cornwall and the coveted top spot.

Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, said: “I have always known that Cornwall is a premier UK destination with a premier offering, but the fact that we are in the running to be awarded best staycation destination for a sixth year, and that it is voted for by the general public, makes me feel incredibly proud.

“I am calling on everyone, from local businesses and residents, to loyal and new visitors, to vote and spread the word. Let’s help Cornwall keep the title it deserves.”

In addition to being shortlisted for the top destination award, Cornwall also has a number of local businesses being recognised in other award categories.

For a second year, Bude is up for the title of Best UK Coastal Resort while the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Eden Project are contenders for Heritage Attraction and Leisure Attraction respectively.

Voting closes at the end of September and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
