Newquay will get in the Christmas spirit this Friday (November 27) when the town’s lights get switched on.

The town will be lit up after Cornwall’s hottest new girl band, Eden performs their debut single, Making Our Way, on Station Parade.

The all girl group will be singing live at 18.45pm before switching on the town’s lights on Friday November 27th at 19.00pm.

Eden’s performance and the Christmas light switch on signals the start of Newquay’s 12 Days campaign, a celebration of all things festive taking place in the town during November and December.

After the lights are turned on there will also be choral singing and many of the town’s shops will be open late. On the evening, Newquay First Loyalty Card holders will be able to take advantage of some great offers and the Newquay shop front competition will also be launched.

12 Days is being coordinated by Tourism Newquay, Newquay Town Centre Manager and Newquay Town Council. The campaign is being sponsored by Newquay’s Headland Hotel and pulls together the great range of activities taking place in Newquay over the festive period.

Guy Thomas, Newquay Town Centre Manager, said: “Cornwall Council is very pleased to be working in partnership with Newquay Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and the local businesses that encapsulate all the events taking place in Newquay at this time of year.  There really are a lot of events taking place and the 12 Days campaign is bringing it all together for the benefit of the community.”

Thomas added: “We really hope that people will come to enjoy the performance from girl band Eden, enjoy the carol singing by the tree and watch the fire works.  Also, we are encouraging the retailers to open until 9pm with the loyalty card businesses offering good discounts.  This is a lovely start to the 12 Days festival.”

Geoff Brown, local Cornwall Councillor for Newquay Central, says: “I am delighted that Newquay is pulling together so well during the festive season to put on such an exciting and entertaining programme of events which should appeal to people of all ages”. Geoff added: “There is a great feeling of community back in the town.”

Richard Wilcox, Business Development Manager for Tourism Newquay and coordinator of the 12 Days campaign, said: “The lights switch on will mark the start of a really exciting few weeks in Newquay. We’re delighted that Eden will be switching on the lights and expect them to attract a big crowd.

“There is so much going on in Newquay over the festive period, I’m sure with so many great events for the whole family there will be a great festive spirit.  It is my hope that our winter event programme will have a positive economic impact and become firmly established on the annual events calendar.”
