Tourism Newquay teamed up with VisitCornwall and Air Southwest to tempt visitors to Cornwall this winter as they launched the first Taste of Cornwall Roadshow on 24 November in Bristol.

Taking advantage of the festive crowds, Tourism Newquay and VisitCornwall set up a demonstration kitchen in Bristol’s Cabot Circus to give stressed out shoppers a break from present buying with a taste of Cornwall.

Nick Hodges, head chef at The Headland Hotel, cooked up a selection of  Cornish specialities, including Cornish mussels with Cornish cider and cream, award winning Cornish sausages with onion jam and St Ives Bay black bream fillet with lemon.

Visitors to the demo kitchen were also in with a chance to win a two night escape to one of The Headland five star self-catering cottages for two people and two return flights from Bristol to Newquay with Air Southwest.

Richard Wilcox, business development manager for Tourism Newquay attended the event, he said: “It was great to be showing off all the great things Cornwall and Newquay has to offer, right in the heart of Bristol.  Throughout the course of the day we saw hundreds of people all keen to sample the tasty treats we had on offer, pick up leaflets and promotional information and enter the competition.

“We certainly believe that we raised the profile of Cornwall and Newquay in what is one of our key target markets for people visiting for short breaks, year round.

“We are extremely confident and enthusiastic about the Taste of Cornwall roadshows and we are really pleased to be able to team up with VisitCornwall and to have the support of Air Southwest for this marketing initiative.  We are really looking forward to taking another great chef to another location in the New Year.”

This is the first in a series of foodie roadshows planned for Air Southwest departure points across the country such as Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester.  The next event is planned to take place in January 2010.
