A family-run hotel in St Ives has enlisted the help of an international consultant to spearhead a major redevelopment programme.

The Chy-an-Albany Hotel, which overlooks St Ives Bay, has recruited hotel and catering expert Andre Wintersgill to head up the project.

The first phase of the plan is to modernise and re-brand the restaurant into a more “chilled out” bistro style.

The new restaurant, which will be known as the ‘Lighthouse Bistro’, will welcome both locals and hotel residents.

For Wintersgill, who has been involved in the hotel and catering industry for over 20 years, the new role will allow him to renew a working relationship with the Chy’s head chef Jon Couch.

“The Chy is a fantastic hotel in a wonderful location with a great chef and I am relishing the challenge of heading up such an ambitious redevelopment programme,” he said.

“Jon and I have worked together throughout the world in hotels and fine dining restaurants as far afield as Thailand, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands and it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to be involved with him in such an exciting project in his home town.”
