An application to launch a 24-hour alcohol home delivery business in Newquay has been withdrawn.

Dial-a-Drink, which operates in other parts of the UK, withdrew its application following strong local opposition to the scheme.

The town’s Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate, Steve Gilbert, welcomed the news and commented: “Having booze available 24-hours-a-day would have been the last thing that Newquay needed. Hundreds of people signed my on-line petition against the application and I was pleased that the Police, the Newquay Resident’s Association and the Town Centre Manager were all against it too.

“I am delighted that the applicants took note of the overwhelming opposition in the town and withdrew the application.”
