The first-ever direct charter transatlantic flight from Newquay Airport has been confirmed.

Jointly organised by Cornish travel agents Wickers World Travel and Newell’s Travel, the flight will depart for New York on Thursday, November 19, returning four days later.

The airport’s head of commercial development, Karen Medweth, hopes this could just be the beginning. She commented: “It has long been our wish to offer flights to the USA and this charter route – ideally timed for Christmas shopping – is a great start.

“We hope this will be the beginning of more transatlantic services, for which there is definitely demand from Cornwall.”
