Marks & Spencer has commissioned St Austell Brewery to create a new exclusive Cornish stout to be sold as part of its popular Cornish beer range.

6 Malt Cornish Stout will join the existing range of three bespoke Cornish beers already produced by St Austell Brewery for M&S – Cornish Red Ale, Cornish Pale Ale and Cornish IPA – and go on sale at M&S stores across the south from Cornwall to London.

The 4.5% brew is available in 500ml bottles (bottle conditioned). St Austell’s head brewer has used six British malts in the recipe: pale, crystal, chocolate, malted oats, smoked malt and roasted barley, with one variety of hops called English fuggles. A “subtle” addition of liquorice root has also been added to give “extra complexity” to the brew.

Head brewer, Roger Ryman, said he was delighted that Marks & Spencer chose St Austell Brewery to create a new beer.

He said: “Marks & Spencer champions regional produce and really values the provenance of a product.

“When the M&S team tasted our popular Mena Dhu Stout they loved it, so we decided to create a variety of stout especially for them. We’ve very much enjoyed working with Marks & Spencer to develop 6 Malt Cornish Stout and I’m really pleased with the result.”
