St Austell could get its first ever 24-hour gym based in White River Place Shopping Centre in the heart of the town centre.

The centre is close to securing a deal with a leading international gym franchise to launch a 24-hour gym from a 6,000 sq ft unit in the centre, adjacent to the Wilkos store.

The gym chain has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council to convert the currently vacant retail unit into a gym facility, and to install a new façade on the exterior of the building.

Richard Hurst, manager of White River Place, said: “We are very close to securing a deal with an international gym chain, and hope to have signed contracts soon so that we can announce more details about the new operator.

“It is exciting news that such a major company is keen to expand its operations into St Austell, and further reflection of the growing reputation of St Austell and the development of the town centre, which we continue to work towards improving in close partnership with the St Austell BID.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for the town, and the flexible 24-hour operation of the gym will suit lots of people, especially shift workers.”
