Work is underway in Helston to create a fourth Patch & Acre Country Store with the unveiling planned for the end of July.

The refurbishment is part of Cornwall Farmers’ £2.3 million growth strategy, which includes investment in new IT systems, staff training, store refit programme and the launch of Cornwall Farmers’ new country store, Patch & Acre.

As part of the work at the Helston branch, which is located on the Water Ma Trout Industrial Estate, the farmer-owned co-operative has also announced plans to expand its floor space by reconfiguring the internal layout. The outside area will also be developed to create a new main entrance, make way for a larger gardening department and increased farming equipment displays.

Simon Birch, chief executive of Cornwall Farmers, said:  “We are well underway with our refit programme now and we’re very encouraged by the results. We have already launched Patch & Acre stores in Penzance, Launceston and Tavistock, with each outlet surpassing trading forecasts.

Cornwall Farmers employs around 200 staff and has other stores in Bideford, Dartington, Hatherleigh, Kingsbridge, Launceston, Liskeard, Otterham, Penzance, Tavistock, Truro and Wadebridge.

The investment is being part-funded through a £920k grant from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, funded by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.
