Fifty two benches, four days and 27 volunteers; that’s all that was needed to give a lift to the pre-season preparations for Newquay’s visitors and residents.

An enthusiastic group of volunteers made up of staff from the Towan Blistra (Wetherspoons), Barclays Bank, staff and customers from North Shore Surf Shop, residents and councillors, have spent four days over the last week rubbing down and repainting benches in Newquay, in time for the Easter holidays.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people who care about Newquay and are prepared to muck in to make it look better,” said Cornwall Council community network support officer, Jenni Pagett.

“I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the volunteers and hope to be able to repeat the project again before the main summer season.”

The project was timed to coincide with Clean Cornwall Week.
