Businesses in St Austell are being urged to cast their votes during the final week of voting on the proposed Business Improvement District (BID).

The ballot closes on Thursday, January 31 at 5pm and the result will be announced following the count that evening.

Chris Witt, chairman of the BID Steering Group, said: “Where else will the town get over £120k of funding a year, for five years?

“How else will the town achieve what it wants to achieve? How else will we develop parking initiatives and events to increase footfall into the town?

“There is no ‘pot at the end of the rainbow’ and this could be St Austell’s last opportunity to ring-fence a sustainable fund for five years, specifically for the town centre.”

Should the scheme be approved, St Austell will become the fifth town in Cornwall to adopt a BID, following in the footsteps of Truro, Falmouth, Newquay and, most recently, Camborne.
