The new owner of Shades nightclub in Falmouth is turning the premises into an “African oasis” – just like its sister club on the other side of the world.
Martin Mills owns the ‘Mama Africa’ nightclub at Airlie Beach in Queensland, Australia. He’s now returned to the UK, has taken on Shades, and is busy transforming it into another Mama Africa.
Interior decorators are already in the premises getting it ready for the grand opening in early April.
They’re bringing the key elements of the Australian bar to Falmouth, including a bamboo beach hut style bar and signature zebra striped dance floor.
Mills, who’s overseeing the refurbishments, said: “Mama Africa is well known on the backpackers circuit in Australia and I’ve been surprised at how many people I’ve met in Cornwall who’ve been there. I’m hoping to recreate the same chilled out atmosphere at the club here in Falmouth.”
