Ever dreamed of teaching exercise classes on one of Cornwall’s beautiful beaches or running a gourmet food and drink van in a country park or overlooking a harbour?

Cornwall Council has 40 new pop-up sites available for lease in some of Cornwall’s most iconic locations, opening doors for both new and existing businesses.

Businesses will be able to tender for an incredible range of locations covering the length and breadth of Cornwall, from Penzance Promenade and Smeatons Pier in the west to Saltash waterfront and Kit Hill in the east and Widemouth Bay and the Camel Trail in the north.

Councillor Sue James, the Council’s cabinet member for environment and public protection, said: “Pop-up shops are a great way to test your business idea, generate interest in your new business and get you noticed. They give people a way of trying something new, without tying up your cash flow.

“By making these sites available, we want to encourage more people to use our beautiful beaches, open spaces and car parks, as well as encourage entrepreneurs and existing business to try something new without being tied into a long-term lease. Not only does this help businesses grow and develop, the money raised by leasing the sites is being used to help protect and maintain Cornwall’s open spaces.

“The last two phases of the programme have been a fantastic success, with 12 sites leased to local businesses in the first year, and 33 sites  in the second year, generating more than £110k. Pop-ups ranged from people teaching yoga and selling ice cream, desk chairs and beach goods on the beach, to providing food and drink in country parks, car parks or harbours and everything in between.”

Tender applications close on midday on January 15. It is intended that the awarded tenders will be up and running by Easter.
