CCB meets Neighbourhood challenge

Cornwall Council’s Neighbourhood Services department is responding to changes in its organisation by working with Cornwall College Business (CCB) to roll out a ‘Leading to Success’ programme.

The programme has been specifically designed for managers across Cornwall, who handle many different aspects of the business; from maintaining Cornwall’s roads, parks and local amenities to protecting cliff paths and emptying waste bins.

The programme comes at a critical time in the organisation’s evolution, and Arthur Hooper, head of Neighbourhood Services, said the next 18 months are going to be a major challenge.

“As we move into an increasingly competitive and commercial environment, it is essential that we equip our managers with the skills that our commercial competitors develop in their people,” he explained.

“We wanted to develop some really practical skills in coaching, motivating and unlocking the potential in our staff, and we saw a tailored training programme through Cornwall College Business as the best way to achieve this.”
