Staff at a north Cornwall candle business were in royal mood yesterday as they played host to HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.

The Duchess, who was in Cornwall on official royal duties, took the opportunity to visit St Eval Candle Company, a traditional candle making workshop specialising in hand-crafted luxury candles.

“We were delighted to show HRH The Duchess of Gloucester how we make our candles here at St Eval,” said managing director Ian Greaves. “The whole team were thrilled at the time and interest she showed whilst here and it was a pleasure to hear how much she enjoys burning our candles at home.”

The Duchess spent more than an hour at the company’s premises, meeting staff and learning about the processes used to create St Eval Candle Company candles.

The company first learned of the visit when it received a letter from Colonel Edward Bolitho, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, in September 2012 advising that the Duchess would like to pay a visit when she was next in the county. The visit is thought to be the first official royal visit that the St Eval parish has received.

St Eval Candle Company supplies a wide range of candles and related accessories to boutique gift shops throughout the UK as well as selling direct from its on-site factory shop and its website.
