Free Business Link coaching event highlights tested techniques for Truro businesses…

Amid the constant bombardment of doom and gloom about the Credit Crunch and recession, it is only too easy to forget that there is plenty that every business can do to avoid the worst effects of the downturn.

So, to help as many Cornish businesses as possible get unscathed through these difficult times, Business Link is hosting an intensive two-hour coaching session on 4 March to highlight a range of tried and tested techniques that are proven to strengthen business performance. The event will be held at The Alverton Manor Hotel in Truro at 6.00pm, with time set aside for networking after the presentations.

Called ‘Recession-proof your business’, this free-to-attend session aims to help all attendees develop their own unique action plan that both identifies immediate priorities and finds the best way forward in the longer term. It will focus on a number of areas where managers can take positive action, including effective preparation for change, finance, people management and marketing.

According to Business Link CEO Adam Chambers, “Our Business Advisers, all successful and experienced businesspeople in their own right, will be concentrating on the preparation, marketing, finance and HR issues that are at the heart of every successful plan. They will also be giving you information on directly relevant business issues, as well as emphasising all the local and national support that’s available for you and your organisation.

“I strongly urge you to book your place as soon as you can. The session provides practical solutions to urgent needs in a highly efficient and effective way, all without costing you a penny – even the light refreshments are free!”

Adam is delighted that the City of Truro Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in the county are throwing their support behind these and other events.

“We are working hard, alongside the South West RDA, to encourage small businesses to take advantage of the services available to them,” he said. “With the Chamber and FSB promoting these services to their membership we expect awareness of them to be high, making it even more important that you book early.”

Truro Chamber of Commerce’s Chairman, David Tandy from Follett Stock solicitors said: “There is no doubt that 2009 will be a challenge for many businesses. With this in mind the City of Truro Chamber of Commerce is keen to support businesses by, among other things, guiding them to the appropriate advice to address any issues they may have associated with the economic downturn. We hope to see as many businesses as possible reap the benefit of this free opportunity that Business Link is providing.”

Adds Ann Vandermulen, the FSB’s Regional Manager, “Small businesses really are the lifeblood of our economy and they are doing all they can to stay positive, survive these uncertain economic times and come out growing and prosperous. With these coaching sessions Business Link are helping small businesses find ways to grow stronger and more competitive, creating quality jobs and doing their bit to pull the UK out of the recession as quickly as possible.”
