Regional law firm Stephens Scown is expanding its family team in Cornwall with the acquisition of Bodmin-based Murrays Solicitors.

Senior partner John Murray is retiring from the specialist mid-Cornwall practice, with two other partners Nick Gibbons and Andrew Lobb being transferred to Stephens Scown’s offices in St Austell.

Gibbons and Lobb will join the team as associates, providing legal expertise and specialist advice on a range of complex family, childcare, guardianship and mental health matters.

Stephens Scown will also employ a secretary from Murrays, as part of the takeover and following the recent expiration of the lease, the firm’s office in Bodmin will close.

Peter Marshall, partner with Stephens Scown in St Austell, commented: “This acquisition will significantly strengthen the existing expertise within our family team of solicitors in Cornwall and is an excellent opportunity for the firm.”

All existing Murrays’ clients will be contacted by Stephens Scown to make them aware of the process.
