Fresh, expertly and sustainably caught fish and shellfish from the crystal clear Cornish waters can now arrive at doorsteps all over the country within hours, with the launch of The Cornish Fishmonger.

The Cornish Fishmonger is launched by Rob Wing, also founder and owner of Wing of St Mawes Fish Merchants in Cornwall, who has been catching, sourcing, cooking, preparing and selling fish in Cornwall for over 25 years (and eating it for even longer!).

Wing explained:  “The Cornish Fishmonger is all about providing carefully and expertly selected fresh fish and shellfish, sourced from clear Cornish waters at the best prices.  We know our local fishermen – we visit them every morning in the hustle and bustle of the Cornish quayside fish markets to see their catches landed in front of our eyes; as seasons come and go, we bag the best catch.

“We believe in ethical and sustainable sourcing, after all, we’ve been investing in Cornish fishing for many years and we want to see it continue for generations to come.”

Wing was born and brought up in Cornwall and lived in St Mawes for 30 years; he now lives close by with his family.  His experience, which extends from fisherman to fish merchant, to head chef at the prestigious Tresanton Hotel, is the driving force behind The Cornish Fishmonger, along with his insatiable passion for cooking with, and talking about fish.

He added:  “Our 25-year history supplying fish and shellfish to some of the Country’s top chefs, hotels and restaurants, including Michael Caine at Gidleigh Park and The Eden Project, allows us to have close to 30 different species of fish available every day.

“There is an educational angle to our online shop; visitors to the site can learn about how to handle and prepare different kinds of fish and there is also information about why fish is so good for our health.  We want to appeal to a diverse audience; from those who buy, prepare and cook fish on a regular basis and are a real ‘dab hand’ in the kitchen, to those who are perhaps a little less confident.

“This is why we will also provide advice and inspiration at every stage, for those who want it!  From what’s in season and the catch of the day, to storage tips, tasting notes, chef-perfected recipes and even how to re-use your delivery box afterwards in the garden for growing herbs or veggies; we always have plenty of ideas up our sleeves.”

  1. Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your kind comments; coming from an ex fisherman who spent many years at sea, your wealth of experience adds a unique qualification and authority to such comments.

You are correct in your view that Cornwall has an enviable reputation for providing some of the finest fish that reaches our shores, so much so that tons of it leave the county for distant locations within Europe every week.

UK fish lovers and those that aspire to enjoy fish now have a chance to benefit from our county’s rich and diverse seafood and, enjoy trying out the many recipes that our site offers free of charge.

    Thanks
    Rob
