This year’s Cornwall Business Week (May 9-13) will include a conference for businesses seeking to improve their sustainability.

Profit from Sustainability, run by Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Natural Generation, will take place on Tuesday May 10 at the Newquay Lighthouse Cinema, following on from PFK Francis Clark’s Finance in Cornwall Event.

The event aims to put a commercial focus on sustainability for businesses, highlighting how improvements and changes could positively impact their bottom line.

Chamber chief executive, Kim Conchie, said: “Many businesses have already worked at becoming more sustainable, but some feel as though they’ve been left behind.

“Profit from Sustainability is an opportunity for businesses to get practical and commercial advice on improving their sustainability, with the potential to reduce their running costs, impress their customers and learn what projects are running locally which they can benefit from.

“What’s more, businesses which might be looking to tender for public sector contracts in the future are increasingly going to be required to have a sustainability policy in place.”

Speakers at the event will include Monica Read, business services & sustainability director at South West Water, John Whybrow from the Smart Islands Programme and Jonny Williams, director of BRE National Solar Centre & BRE South West.

Cornwall Sustainability Awards will also be launching at the event, with Cornwall Council’s Veryan Jones, senior environment officer, revealing this year’s award categories.

Ivor Thomson, MD of Natural Generation, said: “Sustainability is at the heart of our business and helping people choose the right renewable energy solutions for their homes and businesses is what we do every day.

“We know that even small changes can have a hugely positive impact not just on the environment but on the bottom line and that’s why we are proud to be sponsoring the Sustainability Conference.”

The Profit from Sustainability event is taking place between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesday May 10 at Newquay Lighthouse Cinema. This event is free to attend and tickets include a Cornish cream tea and networking opportunity.
