Tremough Innovation Centre (TIC) celebrated its second anniversary yesterday (May 22) in novel style – by holding a Scalextric championship for its tenants.

According to latest figures, companies based at the business acceleration centre grew by a record 20% last year.

And acceleration was the name of the game yesterday, as each company put forward a team member to compete in a fast-paced competition of the electric racing car game using a giant Scalextric set laid out in one of the centre’s conference rooms.

After a series of heats held the previous day, the top performing four drivers raced in a highly-competitive final during the centre’s second-year anniversary party.

Gareth Craddock from Wardell Armstrong took the chequered flag and was crowned the winner before Tremough clients enjoyed a hog roast and celebratory party.

TIC manager, Richard Snell, said: “We have regular social get-togethers here so that clients can meet, which often leads to businesses linking up and working together, but this one was a particularly special social event as it marked our official second birthday.

“We also celebrated the recent SERIO report which found we have supported businesses here at TIC to enjoy annual growth rates of 20% – double the national average of 10%.”

The centre opened in 2012 to support innovative companies from the eco, enviro, media and creative sectors, and is now home to 47 growing businesses.
