Sarah Newton, MP for Truro and Falmouth, and employers of apprentices, will speak at the free seminar organised by the Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency, on the second morning of the Cornwall Business Show, on Thursday, October 3 (8.30am-9.30am).

The event at Kingsley Village, Fraddon, will be an opportunity for businesses to hear about the latest developments enabling companies to access apprentices.

The Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency can employ an apprentice on a business’s behalf, reducing the risks and costs commonly associated with recruitment. It can help source the right candidates, handle the administration and support the short-listing process, and help businesses access funding per apprentice.

Any business wanting to hear more about the Agency’s approach is welcome to join its team of specialist skills advisors at the breakfast seminar.

Newton, who has supported the Agency’s objectives from the inception, will be highlighting the importance of apprenticeships for economic growth and job creation.

She said: “High quality apprenticeships provide both businesses with the skills they need to grow, and employees with crucial work and training opportunities in their chosen career paths. The Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency’s all-round support and help accessing funding is particularly valuable to SMEs who sometimes face greater risks when growing their workforce.”

Businesses will also hear from Helston employer Nigel Buxton, of Primary PC Solutions, about its positive experience in hiring 22-year-old apprentice Samson.

He said: “The whole process, from recruitment through to employment, was all made so much easier by the on-going support of the Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency. They provided a fast and friendly service at every step.”

The Agency will also be exhibiting at the two-day business show (October 2-3) at Stand 41.
