More than 175 Cornish businesses have grabbed the invitation to a New Year event, focused on funding alternatives to high street banks.

Organised by accountancy firm Bishop Fleming, the event will be staged at Kingsley Village, Fraddon, on January 18.

More than 25 funding and business support organisations will be present, including providers of grants, loans, equity investment, and asset-backed lending.

Ewan McClymont, Bishop Fleming‘s head of grants and corporate development for Cornwall, said: “We have had a phenomenal response in double-quick time, and are now up to full capacity for the venue, although we are still recording all applicants, who will go on a waiting list for any drop-outs and will receive all reports from the event.

“This strong response underlines that Cornish business owners are struggling to obtain sufficient levels of conventional funding. Cornwall is fortunate in having a wider range of alternative funding options, and this event is focused on highlighting some of those available.”

The half-day event will also explore such issues as graduate recruitment, export, rural diversification, premises, training, mentoring & coaching, energy reduction, collaboration networks, productivity gain, and superfast broadband.
