The 100th International Women’s Day takes place next week and, as part of a worldwide network of events, the Empowering Smart Women (ESW) initiative is hosting ‘What Glass Ceiling?’ in Wadebridge.

The networking event on March 8 (3pm-5pm, Royal Cornwall Showground) will include Cornwall-born guest speaker Leanne Grose, who had one leg amputated because of cancer and has since gone on to become a television celebrity, author and businesswoman.

Carleen Kelemen, ESW patron and director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “This event in Cornwall is one of hundreds being organised around the world to celebrate women’s achievements, ambitions and potential in every walk of life. In this IWD centenary year Leanne’s tale should serve to inspire women and men to greater success.”

Sue Lovell, business centre manager at Truro and Penwith College, which is organising the event, said: “This is a great chance to celebrate the achievements of those on our Empowering Smart Women programme and be further inspired by Leanne’s motivation and determination.”

There will also be a workshop about building an online business profile – run by Cornwall Enterprising Women event co-ordinator Josie Purcell – and a cream tea.
