Insurance brokers from across Cornwall are being invited to a Broker Forum to hear some of the UK’s leading Insurance and law specialists discussing the growing importance of Directors and Officers and Professional Indemnity Insurance and the impact that growing regulation is having on small and medium sized business owners.

The free to attend Broker Forum, which is open to Insurance Brokers from across the South West, takes place on Thursday, October 7 at Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club, and is organised by one of the UK’s specialist providers of Directors and Officers and Professional Indemnity Insurance Angel Underwriting.

Taking place from 10.00am to 1.30pm, a panel of recognised experts will give attendees essential up to date information to explain the risks facing directors and officers, and why D&O insurance is essential in addressing these in today’s business environment.

With the recent developments in employment law, corporate manslaughter and other case law, directors and officers are now much more accountable to an even wider audience. As a result their livelihoods, personal assets, peace of mind and even their freedom are at risk more now than ever before.

Speakers at the event include:

David Barrett – An advanced Insurance technical trainer, David will present a broad presentation on directors and officers liability insurance.

Alex Lock – A Partner at Beachcroft LLP, who specialises in outsourcing and employment law and has provided specialist employment advice and guidance on all aspects of employment law to public and private sector employers for more than 12 years.

Andrew Stokes – Also a Partner at Beachcroft LLP, Andrew has been practising in the field of Health and Safety Law for 20 years, both in industry and in private practice. He specialises in the defence of safety, health and environmental prosecutions and employers’ liability.

“For any broker interested in offering D&O and employment practices insurance, this event represents an ideal opportunity to listen to a panel of recognised experts in an informative and relaxed environment” said Gary Green, Angel Underwriting’s Business Development Director.

“There are a lot of brokers across Cornwall and we hope they will be able to attend the Broker Forum given the quality of the speakers and the relevance of the topics being discussed to their customers.”

Directors and Officers Insurance helps protect company directors from personal financial loss arising from claims of negligence or breach of duty whilst managing their company and is becoming increasingly important in today’s business environment.

Unlike legal expenses cover, which only pays for the cost of defence and often has a prospect of likely success clause, a D&O policy pays both the cost of defence and any covered compensation, if the claim is substantiated and will respond regardless of likely outcome.

Attendance is free and will include morning tea and coffee and will be followed by a buffet lunch after the final presentation at around 1.30pm.

Spaces at the event will be limited and based on a first come first served basis. To book a space at the Forum, contact Angel Underwriting on 01206 215500 or email gg@angelunderwriting.com with the names and contact details of those people wishing to attend.
