A Cornish events company has won a contract with the BBC, offering young people the opportunity to gain skills within the creative industries.

Event Cornwall will be hosting 12 work experience placements for 18-24 year olds as part of the south west leg of BBC Blast on Tour.

BBC Blast on Tour provides free three-day creative workshops and drop in sessions for 13-19 year olds, focusing on music, fashion, art, dance and film, culminating in an open showcase on the final afternoon.

The south west events take place on Lemon Quay in Truro on July 16-18 and Museum Square in Barnstaple on August 5-7, with six placements available at each location.

Event Cornwall director Claire Eason-Bassett said: “We are very excited to be in a position once again to be able to offer young people the opportunity to gain experience with live events.

“We’re looking for candidates who have lots of initiative, energy and enthusiasm who can help bring out the creative side in other young people.”
