A Launceston pub has become the first in Cornwall to trial an electronic waiter system hailed as the “ultimate customer service innovation”.

The White Horse, part of St Austell Brewery’s 174-strong estate, has been using Service Please for two weeks and landlady Lucy Collins says it has revolutionised the pub’s service.

Service Please is a wireless call button system placed on each table, allowing customers to order drinks, service or even the bill at the touch of a button.

Collins said: “We’re already getting some fantastic feedback from our customers. They love the fact they can get service at the touch of a button, with no unwanted interruptions and a relaxed atmosphere.

“We’re the only pub this side of Bristol to have this system installed. From our point of view it’s helping to improve our efficiency and the experience we can offer our customers. If our customers are happy, then so are we.”

  1. Good service staff will be alert enough to know when customers need attention. Why does everything need to be replaced with some kind of faceless system, I think it’s a shame. Personal service is a big part of the whole experience whether you’re a greasy spoon, a pub or a Michelin star establishment.
