A Penryn-based media agency has set its sights on becoming the market leader in the UK marine sector after relaunching under a new brand.

Fastnet Marketing is the new trading name for Black Geko Media, based at Tremough Innovation Centre.

By tapping into Cornwall’s rich ocean-going heritage, the new-look agency aims to raise the profile of the Duchy’s marine companies, as well as serve the UK industry as a whole.

Black Geko Media was set up by yachting enthusiast and marketing entrepreneur, Sarah Leverton, in 2010.

Since then, the full-service agency has grown into a four-strong team, which includes commercial director, Alex Head (a ship’s captain and commercial yacht master), web developer Austen Osborn and office/project manager, Audrey Stevens.

Explaining the company’s new direction, Leverton said: “The marine industry is one of the biggest contributors to Cornwall’s economy, with huge employers like Falmouth Docks and Pendennis Shipyard.

“The marine sector speaks its own language, and we felt like there was a need for a specialist agency, which understands its terminology, to better market their products and services.”

Fastnet Marketing will continue to work with local Cornish businesses and non-marine clients, but the team hopes the new focus will encourage more organisations from the marine sector to get onboard.
