The islands are facing the twin challenge of recession and ever cheaper worldwide air travel, and seek fresh marketing support to take the essential business of tourism on Scilly into a new era.

A new body – The Island Partnership – was recently set up to spearhead the initiative and reflect all aspects of tourism provision on the islands.

Wolf Rock beat off competition from five other local and national suitors to win the contract and will implement a mix of marketing tools including video adverts, social media and PR campaigns to give the island a bigger presence online and in the press.

Director Jo Downie said: “We are delighted to have won this high profile piece of business. It is no easy challenge but it is a unique and wonderful ‘product’ that is right up our street as we work to take the best of Cornwall to big waiting markets out there nationally and internationally. We can’t wait to get started.”
