An award-winning toy company in Cornwall is being given a helping hand during its first months of development by legal experts at Coodes Solicitors.

Rokka Play, set up by Samantha Spake and Vanessa Harris, was crowned winner of the first Ignite Cornwall business plan competition, run by Oxford Innovation.

As part of their prize package, Coodes Solicitors has offered a selection of legal services to launch the business.

Rokka Play, based just outside Gunnislake, specialises in designing and developing beautiful wooden toys, which encourage children to embrace creative and imaginative play.

Legal support provided by Coodes includes advice on intellectual property, trademark registration, setting up contracts with suppliers and wholesalers, employment contracts and online retail and exporting.

Harris said: “As part of our prize we received a cash injection to get Rokka Play off the ground, but it’s the advice and expertise that we’ve received from professional services that’s the icing on the cake.

“The support from Coodes is helping us move forward so much more quickly. They are such a friendly and approachable firm, and we’re looking forward to building a long-term relationship with them.”

Rokka plans to launch its first product in September, targeting the Christmas shopping market.
