Last month the School received confirmation that its £1.1 million application to the Skills Funding Agency was successful and it has now received confirmation that its £1.8 million application for EU European Regional Development Funding was endorsed. The remaining £725k will come from the Cornwall College Group.

Head of College David Stedman said: “We are delighted that we have secured the much needed funding to redevelop Falmouth Marine School. This investment will result in an accessible, efficient and effective campus that will improve economic growth to the area and provide facilities to support skills and business support for the marine sector in Cornwall.”

The contract for the work is currently under tender with work commencing February 2014, with a three phase process to minimise the impact to current students, staff and the town. The estimated completion date will be April 2015.

The redevelopment plans include a state-of-the-art marine engineering workshop, complete with a commercial engine room with fuel mapping and diagnostic testing equipment. There will be reconfiguration of the marine biology laboratories and classrooms to make better use of the space, with additional tanks and equipment for the marine biology students to use for their marine mammal breading programme.
