The South West Manufacturing Advisory Service (SWMAS) has launched a new project to help SME manufacturing companies across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly identify growth opportunities and link with expertise from universities and other third party consultants.

The Product Development Centre (PDC) will be part funded by the Convergence Programme to the value of £420k.

It will provide manufacturing businesses, including start-ups, with access to grants to fund up to 50% of third party consultancy support, and the project support should lead to at least 70 new jobs being created in the region.

Martyn Pearson, manufacturing advisor for the PDC, explained: “The objective of the project is to support the productivity and growth of manufacturers in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by providing them with in depth and transformational support that will increase their potential for sustainable growth.

“We will work closely with the approved companies to diagnose current status, identify development and growth opportunities and project manage any agreed changes to the business.”

The PDC will be in operation through to March 2015. Email Martyn Pearson for more details.
