The first workspace in the £13.5 million Barncoose Gateway development is nearing completion.

This is an ambitious scheme of office and industrial units which is supported by more than £6.6 million of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence investment.

The scheme, which is supported by more than £6.6 million of Convergence investment, is the largest speculative employment space to be undertaken in Cornwall and involves the construction of five office and hybrid/industrial units on a site near to the A30 and Redruth.

It is estimated that once all buildings are fully occupied 82 jobs will be safeguarded and 171 more will be created by 2015.

Carleen Kelemen, director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “With the shift away from the availability of public sector funding, Barncoose demonstrates the continuing confidence of the private sector to utilise Convergence support and invest in high quality business developments.”

The Barncoose Gateway Project is being constructed on brownfield land and is an investment as a direct result of the public sector investment including Objective One funding into the Barncoose Link Road.

Local employer Coastline Housing Ltd is planning to move into the first completed new office building later this year which comprises a two storey building of some 1,740 sq m and work has also progressed on three hybrid office/industrial buildings which will be completed in early 2012.

Practical Developments (SW) Ltd, which is the developer for the project, has appointed BLS Estates and Miller Commercial as agents for the hybrid office industrial units together with the 3,907 sq m office building yet to be constructed.
