St Ives MP Andrew George has commented on the stories that there is to be a Government imposed moratorium on Convergence spending.

George said he has spoken to both Business and Treasury Ministers regarding concerns that the Economic Aid Budget which supports the European Regional Development Programme in Cornwall has been cut from next year.

He said: “The Ministers I spoke to last night were unaware of this. I am determined that there should be no de-railing of the good progress being made through Cornwall’s Regional Economic Programme.

“This aid is vital to Cornwall’s economic recovery and I will be pressing Ministers to offer reassurance ahead of the announcement on the Comprehensive Spending Review on the 20th October this year.”
