A series of business advice workshops from Oxford Innovation have been proclaimed a great success.

‘Finance Through the Looking Glass’ sought to unravel the mysteries of finance for small and medium sized companies in Cornwall, and was held by the Oxford Innovation Grow Cornwall in St Mellion, Bodmin and St Ives.

Feedback from the events was so encouraging that plans have already been made to run the same event on June 23 at the Agri-food Centre, Callington.

Sarah Livingstone, an Oxford Innovation business coach who delivered the workshops, said: “Understanding what your figures are telling you is crucial to running an effective business and producing meaningful monthly management accounts. A company with ambitions to grow has to be in control of its finances.”

Over the coming months the Grow Cornwall team will be delivering events which address innovation and sales and marketing as well as other business areas.

The roadshows can be a taster-session for companies wishing to find out more about the support offered to early stage and existing companies with ambitions to grow. Treve Willis, programme director for Oxford Innovation, explained: “Growing a business can be a daunting experience.

“Company owners often feel they should possess all the knowledge required for success. We are aware that there are often gaps in understanding the options for funding and tracking business growth. Through the roadshows we aim to fill some of those gaps and remove the isolation for business owners and managers by enabling them to meet with others and seek one-to-one assistance.”
