A Cornwall family support charity is calling for finance, fundraising or communications professionals to join its board of trustees.

Home-Start Kernow is a support charity that helps families with young children across the county to deal with whatever life throws at them.

It supports parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. The benefits of support include improved health and wellbeing and better family relationships.

The charity is seeking trustees in three specific areas – finance, marketing and public relations, and fundraising. It’s also on the hunt for trustees with a strong personal commitment to supporting families.

Chair of trustees Steve Fowler said: “We are very keen to find specialists in their field to strengthen our board. It helps if you have some family or parenting experience to understand our mission and values.

“We are a relatively small charity but we have ambitions to grow and support more families across Cornwall. We are looking to develop our board to lead our committed band of staff and volunteers.”

The commitment starts at around one meeting per month, at the charity’s base in Redruth.

Trustee Michelle Gould joined the board in 2015. She said: “I was really interested to find out how the organisation worked. You don’t have to be involved in everything, but you can use your experience and skills as well as learning new things.

“Parenting can be stressful, it can be scary, it can even be isolating. But at the same time it’s rewarding and amazing – we’re just here to help anyone who might need a hand during those crucial early stages of having a family.”
