The Cornwall Air Ambulance has partnered with fundraising website ‘Give as you live’ to enable online shoppers to raise money for the charity while they do their Christmas shopping.

The partnership means that anyone shopping online with a host of retailers, such as Amazon, Next, Marks and Spencer and Debenhams, can help keep the air ambulance saving time and saving lives.

Susie Smith, head of fundraising for the charity, said: “We are really pleased to have partnered with Give As You Live just in time for Christmas.

“It doesn’t cost you, the shopper, a penny with the retailers donating a proportion of everything you spend to us.

“All you have to do is nominate the Cornwall Air Ambulance as the charity you want to support.”

The scheme has enlisted an impressive list of supporters and doesn’t just apply to retail brands.

Ticket websites, insurance companies and hotel sites have all pledged to give a percentage of their online sales through Give as you Live.

Paula Martin, chief executive for the charity, said: “The Cornwall Air Ambulance is committed to town centres and encourages everyone shop locally this Christmas but we are also realistic about online shopping.

“Figures from last Christmas show that on average Britons spend £1000 per year online and with 2.8 billion visits to retail websites in December alone, a 30% increase on the previous year.

“By tapping into this trend we are able to ensure that some of that money gets returned into the local community.”
