Cornwall Hospice Care is looking for daring local businesses to take part in its hottest challenge yet.

The charity, which provides around 6,500 bed days per year at its two hospices – Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell and St Julia’s in Hayle – is holding a sponsored Firewalk.

Community fundraiser, Tamsyn Cocks, explained: “Through our care we help thousands of people in Cornwall to cope with the distressing symptoms, worry and fear that can accompany life-limiting illnesses.

“This is why we’re asking our local business community to extinguish their fears and raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care, so that we can continue to help our patients and their loved ones to overcome theirs.”

The Firewalk will take place at Newquay Sports and Community Centre’s annual firework event on Saturday, November 3. This hot new challenge involves a bare foot walk over red hot embers, with no tricks and no special effects. Full training will be given on the night.

She added: “Forget about sharing circles or motivational speeches, firewalking is a team building exercise with a difference that really gets your adrenaline pumping and your team supporting each other.

“Challenge other departments to fundraise or even compete against other businesses in you sector to raise much needed funds for this local cause. What better way to unite your team than fundraising for a Cornish charity that is close to many people’s hearts?” Tamsyn added.
