Newly-formed local charity Dementia UK Cornwall has chosen St Michael’s Hotel & Spa in Falmouth to hold its upcoming professionals’ training day on 22 August, following a successful launch event earlier in the year.

The charity was formed as a direct result of chair Lisa Dann’s experience of dementia in her family. The committee is made up of the friends she met at the St Michael’s Spa Aqua Circuits group and who supported Lisa and her mother through her father’s illness.

Up to 150 delegates are expected to attend the all-day training event where one of Dementia UK’s senior Admiral nurses Jeni Bell will give help and advice to those working with people and families living with dementia.

Admiral Nurses offer individual support for those diagnosed with dementia and their families. There are currently no Admiral nurses working in Cornwall but Dementia UK Cornwall has raised £10k in three months towards the objective of launching the service here.

St Michael’s business development manager, Samantha Banks, said: “We are delighted Dementia UK Cornwall has again chosen us for their event. Our Regatta Suite is the ideal space for meetings of this size and we can supply all the equipment and back up Dementia UK Cornwall need.”
