Restaurants across the Duchy are being invited to join a national fundraising campaign to benefit local homeless charities – St Petroc’s Society and the Cornwall Women’s Refuge Trust.

‘StreetSmart’ raises funds for the homeless through restaurants adding an optional £1 onto each table’s bill during November and December.

In January the totals for the restaurants in each county are brought together and then donated to charities within their county, ensuring money raised locally is used to help charities locally.

A total of £13k has been raised by Cornish restaurants during the past three years, with £6k raised last year. This year the target is £10k.

To date Stein’s Cornish Arms in Padstow, Bustophers in Truro, Treloyhan Manor in St.Ives, South Café in Manaccan, Scarlets Wines in Lelant, Clarks and Gylly Beach Café in Falmouth, Blue Bar at Porthtowan, The Golden Lion at Stithians and The Old Quay Inn in Devoran have all signed up ready for November.

Eventy Marketing & PR is co-ordinating the Cornwall area for StreetSmart and hopes to encourage even more restaurants to take part this year to raise as much as possible.

Managing director Helen Mulhern explained: “The voluntary £1 donation from diners is a small ask that makes a big difference. Deutsche Bank has paid the administration costs at HQ in London, so the whole pound is given to the local charities. StreetSmart is a great way for restaurants and diners to support the homeless as the temperatures start dropping.”
