St Michael’s Hotel & Spa in Falmouth has been recognised for its environmental and sustainability policy and practices.

Following substantial time and financial investment over the past 18 months, the hotel has been awarded gold status by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).

The aim of the scheme is to encourage a business to reduce its environmental impact by improving the management of any resources it uses. The scheme also encourages guests to stay local, use local transport, attractions and facilities.

Businesses opting to join the GTBS are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria. Those that meet the required standard receive a bronze, silver, or gold award based on their level of achievement.

Proprietor of St Michael’s Hotel & Spa, Nigel Carpenter said: “This is a huge achievement for the hotel and all of the staff. To be recognised for our green efforts is fantastic and we hope to continue along our green path and improve our environmental procedures even further.”
