The inaugural Social Media Financial Adviser of the Year award has gone to a Penzance adviser.

Peter Matthew, MD of Jacksons Financial Services, received the award at a ceremony in Windsor, for his work promoting his free financial education website, MeaningfulMoney.tv.

Mattthew commented: “I’m delighted and bemused at the same time! I set out to get some decent financial education out there and the response has been fantastic. I just find a pleasant spot, set up my video camera, and talk for five or six minutes about the basics of financial planning, from tax to pensions, budgeting to investing.”

Matthew has used Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to spread the word about his site, which he says is not about gaining clients for Jacksons.

“There is very little good quality financial information which comes from an independent source,” he said. “I passionately believe that basic financial planning, which can benefit people in so many ways, should not be the preserve of the wealthy, but should be available to all. The internet allows me to achieve that in my own small way.”
