Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (CoaST) director Manda Brookman has been highly commended in the best Personal Contribution category at this year’s Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards.

At a ceremony hosted in London, the awards were handed out by Justin Francis, managing director of responsibletravel.com, organisers and founders of the awards, and Amanda Wills, managing director of Virgin Holidays, headline sponsor of the Awards.

Dr Harold Goodwin, Director, International Centre for Responsible Tourism and Chair of Judges said: “Manda’s work has been at the heart of the development of sustainable tourism in Cornwall. The founding of the Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (CoaST) and her innovative dynamic approach has developed ambassadors for responsible tourism and engaged businesses on best practice in responsible tourism.

“Manda has demonstrated real leadership in building with colleagues and members a strong movement for sustainable tourism in Cornwall , one which stretches deep into the industry supply chain. The CoaST network now has over 1000 members. Manda has not shrunk from raising the tough questions, through One Planet Tourism, about how tourism can continue in a finite world.”

Launched in 2004, the Awards are run in association with partners World Travel Market, The Daily Telegraph and Geographical Magazine.
